I've been thinking. We're not using this blog to it's full potential. This should be a place of gathering for the Lammers family. To that end, I have decided to link my blogs to this one. And, I encourage all Lammer-ites to create one of their own and link it here as well. This way, we can all get to know each other better, and keep updated on each other's lives. Really, it's fun! I promise!

Okay, I understand that it is difficult to make the step to actually blogging, but once you make that step, you get addicted. To start a blog of your own, simply click on the "Get Your Own Blog" box at the top of this page and follow the prompts. It's that easy!

The hard part is thinking of something to say at the beginning. I started by picking a random photo out of my collection and writing about it. It didn't take long for me to get hooked. If anyone would like some help or advice, please feel free to ask us, we ar emore than happy to help you get going!

Cousins and such

Just found this:

Uncle and aunt: Your parents' brothers and sisters, and their spouses. You don't need any blood connection to be a full-fledged aunt or uncle. Your mother's sister's husband is not your uncle by marriage. He's your uncle, fair and square.

Niece and nephew: Son and daughter of your siblings and siblings-in-law. As with uncle and aunt, they're not your nieces and nephews by marriage, they're your nieces and nephews, plain and simple, even if they're your spouse's siblings' kids and don't have a single drop of blood in common with you.

First cousin,: Children of your parents' brothers and sisters. You and your first cousins share one set of grandparents.

Double first cousins: If a pair of brothers marries a pair of sisters, their kids are not only first cousins, they're double first cousins: They have both sets of grandparents in common.

Second cousins: You and the children of your parents' cousins are second cousins and share at least one great-grandparent. Your child and your cousin's child are second cousins.

Third cousins: You and the children of your parents' second cousins are third cousins and share at least one great-great-grandparent. And so on with the fourth, fifth, and sixth cousins.

First cousin once removed: A relationship that is removed is one that exists in two different genealogical generations. Generation refers to the order of birth, a genealogical level. Your aunt and your mother may have been born 20 years apart, but they are still of the same generation.
Your parent's first cousin is your first cousin once removed. The child of your first cousin is also your first cousin once removed: your grandparent is that child's great-grandparent. You can do the whole "removed" thing for every category of cousins -- second cousin once removed, and so on. But by then you'll probably drive everyone completely crazy.

Oh, something else-

Carla, do you have an older picture of the Lammer sisters for the box cover? Also, I know a game that might be fun. Write Lammer's sisters at the top and try to make as many words from it as possible. It may be too much activity since we have the caption game and the mixer games, but we could do it on the blog for fun.

I bought a bunch of self sticking foam pieces in a bucket because they were on sale for half off at Micheals. I also bought some extra sheets of foam to cut out. The most versatile kind was actually a sports one, but it will still be good for all ages and genders. I also got letters. All we need now are pipe cleaners and extra "junk" and imagination. We should ask everyone to bring some age appropriate scissors.

I had a bugger of a time trying to find the right box. I ended up with 4 close to correct boxes. The one I think I will use is quite a bit bigger than Mom's, but that's alright. I will use the others myself for Christmas gifts.

I work on Apr.29th but I could meet on Apr. 30th- after church on Sunday. Does that work for anyone else?

Get together

Now that we've all done some researching and have ideas floating around in our heads, I am wondering if maybe we should all get together again (end of April, maybe?). Then we could decide exactly what we're buying for crafts, prizes, food, and gift bags, then distribute money accordingly. Just a thought. Any input?

Caption Photos

I have an idea for the caption board. Once we pick the photos we are going to use - we can trace the heads of the people. Then I can reduce the traces and put them all on a sheet of paper - and people can write their captions in on the sheet.

Books for kids

Lauretta suggested buying small books from Scholastic book club for either prizes for the kids - or part of their gift pack. Kathy says that she can buy these through either Jacob's school or Ryan's.

Scavenger Hunt

Did everyone get Lauretta's email about scavenger hunts? Excellent!

I esp. liked the idea of finding something that starts with every letter in the alphabet, except that that would take forever. But what if we told the teams they had to find something for every letter in Lammers- or some other appropriate word? And, we could say that so many of the items have to be found outside.

Orietnal Trading also has cheap craft kits for the kids. I found several that were camping related such as a foam frame kit, raccoon magnets, etc. They were less than $8 for a dozen...
They did not, however, have any appropriate playing cards.

Gifts

I think personalized gifts are out of the question- you have to buy a minimum of 100 usually. I did find lots of cool toys for the kids, though in the Oriental Trading Company catalog. Kass, let me know what you find or if you want this catalog.

Well, here we are, we have a blog for our annual reunion now. Today we (Lucy, Karen, Lauretta, Kathy and I) had our first planning meeting. We have so far planned the meal, decided on games, and came up with some brilliant ideas. Very productive meeting, team!!
